I Had To Laugh

Dad, Mom, and the kids have had to come to grips with Dad losing his hair.  We have been sad, but all of us, including Dad, have found some humor in this.

I was looking at pictures of family parties we have had over the last several years and came across this picture.  This is a picture of Dad and his Mom at a Halloween party.

I think this wig is a great look for Dad.  What do you think??

  1. It IS a great look!! :)
    Change is so hard... Hair is hair - who cares about hair if losing it will save your dad, right?? I remember feeling the same way with my mom. Isn't cancer enough??? Why do they have to lose their hair too? All in all - cancer sucks!!! Excuse the candidness... It just does.

    Our family is watching your blog constantly. We think of you every day and more importantly pray for you all EVERY DAY.
    We love reading the sweet letters to your dad/grandpa. It is obvious that you all adore and look up to your parents. They are such wonderful people!! We have always loved them so much.

    Gary is doing the hard work right now... I remember telling my mom "We can beat this." Her response was "We??? Who's We?? There is no We Kimosabi (however you spell that word)." She was right. She had to do the hard work. Gary is having to fight for his life right now. It is a hard fight. Know we are praying for you.
    But I have to also tell Raynee how much we are also thinking of you. Your job is hard too. A different hard. The caregiver is sometimes forgotten. I know you must be feeling so helpless and in a state of panic. We pray for you too. You are one of the most thoughtful people I know. You were SOOOO good to me when you knew I was struggling. I can't thank you enough for your sweet emails and kind words. You will never know how grateful I was to you the night I cried and cried standing in CrackerBarrels gift shop. You let me cry and tell you how much I missed my mom. You listened while I rambled. You were late or even missed your dinner because you cared about me. Thank you so much. You are strong and will be okay.
    I am rambling again.... :)
    We love you all and pray for sleep, peaceful rest, and strength to endure this fight.

  2. A very young cancer patient at PCMC once wrote a book about her many colors of hair. She wore scarves on her head, and each was a new "hair color." She drew, in a child's hand, delightful depictions of her scarves.

    She survived one of the very worst, most terrible forms of cancer. Twice. She never regained the hair on the back of her head, and now, as a young adult, does a sort of girl front hair over the back comb over. She bears some other scars from her childhood fight.

    Now a young woman, she has achieved most of her dreams. She was a student body officer at BYU and graduated in communications. She is a producer for the Church World News, seen between sessions of conference. She speaks periodically to groups about her experience, including the guilt she sometimes feels for surviving when so many others she knew with the same diagnosis did not.

    She is a hero. So is Gary! Can't wait to see what the Bengtzen's come up with as new "looks" for Gary! Lots of love! -Lisa Morrise

    Love,

    P.S. I love poems and wanted to share this one with you below.

    Your Dimension Of Greatness

    No one can know the potential,
    Of a life that is committed to win;
    With courage - the challenge it faces,
    To achieve great success in the end!

    So, explore the Dimension of Greatness,
    And believe that the world CAN be won;
    By a mind that is fully committed,
    KNOWING the task can be done!

    Your world has no place for the skeptic,
    No room for the DOUBTER to stand;
    To weaken your firm resolution
    That you CAN EXCEL in this land!

    We must have VISION TO SEE our potential,
    And FAITH TO BELIEVE that we can;
    Then COURAGE TO ACT with conviction,
    To become what GOD MEANT us to be!

    So, possess the strength and the courage,
    To conquer WHATEVER you choose;
    It's the person WHO NEVER GETS STARTED,
    That is destined FOREVER to lose!
